How to use OLE documents with Atakama

OLE (Object Linking & Embedding) documents are Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Powerpoint) documents linked with and embedded in other documents. When an OLE document is opened, any linked or embedded documents associated with the OLE document are also opened.

When documents associated with an OLE document are resident in the Atakama Vault (or encrypted in-place), opening (i.e., decrypting) the OLE document will also require decrypting, through additional MofNops, the linked and embedded documents associated with the OLE document. You may also receive additional MofNops when saving the OLE document. Documents that were linked prior to encryption will need to have the link updated to their current location inside the Atakama Vault.

For optimal user experience, all documents linked with and embedded in an OLE document should be resident in the Atakama Vault along with the OLE document.
