Using CLI to encrypt and decrypt files

Prerequisite:

Encryption

Steps:

  1. Add files and folders to the backend folder that you created as your Secure Folder (e.g., H:\New Folder).
  2. Open the Command Prompt, type atakama file protect --recursive "H:\New Folder" (always use quotes around file paths that contain a space), and press enter.
  3. Open the Atakama Vault or the backend of your Secure Folder. All the files within that location should be encrypted and display a lock icon.

Decryption

Steps:

  1. Start a session on the phone matching or exceeding the number of files that needs to be decrypted or utilize the Key Shard Server's sessions if you have the enterprise license.
  2. Open Command Prompt and navigate to the folder, type in atakama file unprotect --recursive "H:\New Folder" (always use quotes around file paths that contain a space), and press enter. Optionally, time the decryption process with a small set of files to estimate how long the decryption process will take.
  3. Search and confirm no encrypted files remain after the decryption process. Files can remain in an encrypted state if the file is being held opened by another software (ex: Microsoft Excel holds .xlsx files open and will prevent decryption).
